What size should an Open Graph image be?

1200×630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio, is the safe standard across Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and X. Keep important text within the central area, since some surfaces crop toward square.

Why does my resized image look slightly squashed?

Rounding. If the exact height is 719.4px and you enter 719, the ratio shifts marginally. Pick dimensions that divide cleanly, such as 1280×720 for 16:9.

Does aspect ratio affect Core Web Vitals?

Indirectly. Declaring width and height, or a CSS aspect-ratio, lets the browser reserve space before the image loads, which prevents layout shift and improves CLS.
