What is Word Counter?
Word Counter is a browser-based text analyser that reports word count, character count with and without spaces, sentence count, paragraph count and estimated reading time as you type. It is used to check drafts against a length brief, a meta description limit or a word budget for a client deliverable.
How to use it

When people use it
Fitting metadata limits
Title tags truncate around 580 pixels and meta descriptions around 155 characters. The character count with spaces gives you a fast proxy before you check the pixel-accurate preview in the SERP tool.
Estimating video and talk length
Spoken delivery runs slower than reading. Take the word count and divide by roughly 140 to estimate speaking minutes for a script or conference talk.
Known limits
- Reading time is an average estimate, not a measurement of your specific audience.
- Sentence detection splits on ., ! and ?, so abbreviations like 'e.g.' can inflate the sentence count slightly.
